I use a piece of poster board, mark out everything, then set the pipe on the poster board and marked the pipe. I use a 6' piece of angle aluminium set on the pipe to mark the center line on the outside of the pipe.
Don't stray too much from their design. The more I got away from it, the worse everything worked, regardless of diameter. With a straight leading and trailing edge at least.
