Has some of the disadvantage of single phase, high resistance winding becomes lossy in high wind and sometimes burns out.
Not something I would choose to do for a large machine, but may be worthwhile for a small one.
Not sure it is worth having 3 different windings, 2 identical and one with more turns would probably work as well.
