Hi Ted,
Were you planning on making some kind of an
alternator with this little rewound armature?
With a rim of magnets like an F&P moving
around it...you'd have an alternator...right?
                 Curious....

Hi Norm,

That is definitely possible!

I had thought of clamping the old commutator end of this armature - actually welding it - to the mount. Then preparing a round can with a double bearing on the outer end. The can would have 12 magnets in it - let's say half inch wide, by 1 and a quarter long by quarter inch thick.

The armature is already 'decogged' since the laminates are skewed.

The 'can' could possibly be the old heater motor housing.

The blades would mount to the can.

But the output would probably be pretty small - it would be fun though!

I am currently testing a 1.5 hp induction motor conversion - and yesterday I just about broke a sweat carrying my new (free) Baldor 10 hp 4 pole 3 phase high efficiency motor up to my shop/office. Good thing it was in pieces - just the stator and housing without the rotor in it weighs 95 lb!

Ted.

Ah...Yes! Something about great minds thinking
alike! LOL!
...and...10 HP...(free) Good Grief you got
some connections!   You Lucky.....

On that little motor...it had a thick steel
band on the outside of the can?...needs that to
hold in the flux(but you knew that)
You might be surprised by the output for its
size if you rig it up right! The steel laminates
are the key...that's why these motors do so well
with just fairly weak ceramic mags. Look at the
F&P for instance!
I'd sure like to see you run this little project thru'
be nice pics and all that stuff!
                  Fun!
