Watch what you buy.  My blanked will not work with my inverter.

Called the company and the phone person tried to tell me that my 1000 watt inverter would not supply enough power for the blanket.  I think that the electronics in the belaket does not like the mod sign wave power.

Jan;

Well, you can run it on the grid and it will still be considerably less energy [cheaper] than the furnace being set higher.

Just another angle on the power blankets. I sleep better a bit cooler so never felt the need for much heat in the bedroom.

Just a couple thoughts.

Cheers.

The blanket I had (circa 1970?) had Off, Low, and High.
High was a direct connection.  Low had a blocking diode for half the AC wave.  Too simple not to work.

With our unheated bedroom, we use an electric blanket just long enough to warm the bed, then use a down comforter on top to keep us warm. The electric blanket has been working great for the last 20 years on our 3000 watt modified sine wave inverter. It even works good on 120 vdc. Might be a problem with the newer electric blankets tho.
