Interesting that 6 ft machine, placing the magnets that way overcomes the problem of lack of space at the centre of the stator if you use a conventional hub. With the magnets placed that way the thing would be better with an overlapped coil design, but it makes a very difficult thing to wind.

I have built machines of this type with magnets the conventional way using a blank disc to return the flux but I built my own hub. I have suggested this construction to others but they have run into the space problem at the centre. This seems a perfectly logical solution. I suspect the matching will be quite reasonable for 6ft when loaded in the conventional way.
