I'd be more worried about the strength of the chain.

If there is a chance that the chain is going to be pulled through
a 1/2" hole, then it must be a really small chain---say for tying
a small dog in the yard???

And if this is for a tower anchor, what's on the end of the angle
that is in the ground??
