"Am thinking of using my floor length drill press,"

Before you do, verify that the chuck is positively held in place with for example a retaining bolt. A plain morsecone (MK1, MK2) may be simply pulled out. Not sure what kind of joint there is on your drill.

A morsecone is designed to take up a radial load under compressive pressure. Tensile stress (as occurs during rotor insertion) may simply pull it out.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious but thought I should point it out anyway.

Peter.

correction:

Is NOT designed to take up a radial load but a torsional moment under compressive pressure.

Thanks for the caution Peter but as I mentioned, I plan on suspending the rotor by a cable over top of the head (to prevent exactly what you point out).  OTOH if the chuck is extracted, there is a slot (in the "quill"?) through which the cable cab be threaded which will allow raising or lowering the rotor from the top.

I may though use a piece of iron in the chuck to lower individual neos into place, specifically the middle row neos (each pole will have three rows).  The two outer row neos I have found can be easily placed manually.  I believe the magnetic force from one neo will not be enough to pull out the chuck (or so I will find out).
