Our main problem is a dysfunctional Congress that pays subsidies for ethanol production from corn that requires more energy then you get back. What a waste, not to mention the effect on food prices. What does the Book of Revelation say about the cost of food versus oil in the end times? To top it off, Congress allows a one way trade with China, which means we end up subsidizing their purchases of oil.
I've been tracking the mortgage foreclosures in my area for the last few months. What bothers me is the poor saps that are losing their home over a 20 to 25 thousand dollar mortgage with a 6 to 7 percent interest rate. What did they do wrong? Who cares about the idiot that borrowed $250,000 to buy a house, where average house prices are 80 grand or so. That person is getting what he or she deserves, in my opinion. The banks or Government could help ten of the people with the low balance mortgages with the same money it would take to help one with the quarter million dollar mortgage. Why aren't they?
So, lay it all at the feet of Congress. Or to put it another way, vote out all the incumbents. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Just do something constructive. GeoM
