I know where you are coming from.  I've been using a circuit design simulator lately.  It's fun, but I also realize that I may be wasting my time as I am totally losing sight of such issues as input impedance, output impedance, and impedance matching.  Even the gain of the circuit as an amplifier can get lost with the simulation.  It's too easy to change circuit values.  I have to step back occasionally and think about what I'm doing.  I can analyze the circuit on paper any time I want for whatever characteristics I need to know, but it's easy to get sucked in by the simulation.

I don't use the blade calculators and probably never will, as using them doesn't tell you what they are based on.  I prefer to do my own designs and make my own trade offs.
