I've connected the controller straight onto the output of my windgen .. it does work :D

I did that, too!  I had a 27w automobile tail light as a dump load, which you know totally stalls an Ametek genny like mine.  
I watched my voltmeter as the wind kicked up.  That thing held it firm right at or near the target voltage.  The voltage would go up up up up and suddenly HOLD ON THERE that tailight would fade on to full brightness and then dim again, over and over.

Kinda fun, but prolly not a good idea.  Bad for the bulb and that is a lot of strain on the inner workings of the motor (genny) I imagine.
