Well, it seems what I'm trying to do isn't going to work.

(Have I ever read that before on this forum?)

With the solutions I'm reading about, I think my simplest way to make this a possible is to set a disconnect at a point halfway in the battery series and charge them at 24v for each half. I've got the two sets of garbogen windings and armatures, so I could use two machines or just switch the jumper cable ends to the other set after an hour or two and use one machine.

Jerry, I'm using the armatures from the furnace motors and I found a place with fairly cheap neos for the magnets. http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com

I am using their 2"x.5"x.125" N40s They were only $11 for 4. I bought enough to use 8 per armature. Or is this overkill? would 4 be sufficient?

The full 48v setup would have been less screwing around, but since this is for a friend of mine with a cart that does a lot of stuff for me, I figure either way will be a fun project for us to waste a couple of weekend days on and learn a lot about conversions in the process. And if the kids get a summer of free golf cart riding out of it, so much the better.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Henry
