Hello,
     Did you have the mill hooked to your 12v batteries, and if so, how much power was it doing?  Or was it free-spinning (unloaded)to test your pitch control mechanism?  Be careful of treadrod-- it sure seems like it wants to bind and get stuck easy. Maybe switch to pillow block ball bearings.
