I still have to get my turbine up, but I put in a mechanical shut down brake.  If you go to my site http://www.mindchallenger.com/wind/wgpage7.html you can see pictures of the mechanical disc brake.  I will have a cable going to a lever at the bottom of the tower which I can throw.
