If you are measuring AC voltage that is not a clean Sine wave in the 50/60hz range, then your meter may be giving you some inaccurate results. Low priced Digital multimeters are designed to measure AC from clean grid sources.

I always wondered why? wooferhound, my vector inverter shows only 95v ac while the grid 110 yet the inverter run all lights bright, power drill and saw works fine yet only 95v ac.

The frequency is correct to measure when it's coming from an inverter.
But, the difference is that the inverter is putting out Square Waves, and the grid is giving you Sine Waves, that is what is giving you the difference in your AC voltage readings.
