wow - if that is the 500 watt 12V from hard drive magnets mill, how has it held up?

Have you dropped it to inspect the bits'n pieces?

Very smart to avoid over-unity with a Red Back... Handy little spider port there on the case face so my bet is the spiders keep the real bugs out of the electronics...

Hi there Dan,
yes it is sort of the same machine.

I am also interested in experimenting with direction of rotation and furling methods, so when I trashed the blades I made the new set rotate anti clockwise.

I like to keep the blade tips bending away from the tower during sudden furling motions so that meant that I also had to make up new metalwork  and a new tail on the opposite side.

I had also physically damaged the original stator when things hit it, so a new stator with similar coils was also made.

The magnet rotors using the hard drive mags were reused, as was the tower.

The end result is I have a more robust and lighter genny with similar output to the original.

To this stage I have not been able to determine any significant difference between blades rotating clockwise or anti clockwise.

Does anybody else have any thought on this issue?

Keep having fun,
Mick S
