If you need wire , try a local alternator rebuild shop.
The guy close to me also rebuilds large starters, and with the large starters are worn out starter relays , which have enamel coated wire (17ish gauge)in them. some is thicker if it is a really big relay.
if you are handy with a dremmel all you have to do is cut them open , five or ten mins with the cutting wheel.
above is a section of one of the stators i built , all with recycled wire.
The coils are 1 3/4 " dia

plastic covered wire works for a low powered alt.....
