Help with 3 phase Jerry rig wiring
« on: December 09, 2008, 08:02:18 PM »
Hello Folks,

I know how to connect 3 phase in star or delta (barely), but can't seem to find a story or diagram for Jerry rig. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

Jimmy;

I truly wish the name would change to something descriptive like individually Rectified phases. It is confusing.

Thats all it is.

Each coil group "phase" is rectified separately then the DC outputs combined.

Thank you Tom. I currently don't rectify up top so I guess this would mean bringing all six leads down if I understand you correctly?

Thanks Jim

No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

Hi Tom W.

I agree with you on this one also. The outputs of the bridges can either be perelelled or sires depending on the desiered effect.

I'm doing the sirese aplication on the car alt. mods. The car alts with there high rpm and extream low impeadance need to be siresed but most high volt, high resistance 3 phase lower rpm motor conversions need the perelell configuration.

Its realy not that complicated. Just do what the generating device needs to best match the load at the rpm it will be operating at.

Your conversion's wires may be labeled differently, or not at all.  Mine are labeled 11, 12, 13 instead of 10, 11, 12.

I've found this is the easiest explanation, for my brain anyway.

Notice the obvious mistake on the (-) DC Side.  The (-)DC wire should, of course, attach to the (-) side of the Bridge.

Funny - I JUST noticed that error in the diagram.  But I hooked it up the RIGHT WAY on my PMA...  I guess I'm smarter than I thought.

3 phase Parallel

3 phase Series

If you connect the outputs in series then you are losing a lot of power in the rectifier compared to using a single rectifier.  The current has to pass through 2 diodes in series if you just use one rectifier, and this loses about 1.5 volts total.  If you pass through 3 rectifiers in series you will lose about 4.5 volts total in that process.

I guess what I am saying is that I like using the right number of turns per coil and then a series/star connection.  That's the most efficient solution.
