NEW battery
« on: May 01, 2015, 11:54:33 PM »
They must not know how to not use electricity if they only get 1 day out of a Tulsa battery. I really would like to see one and play with it. Has anyone seen a picture of the insides or even the outside? The battery is one thing the hook up to the grid is another? We'll see how things work using it. Give one of us a battery and we'll test it for them. 13

It appears not be the "normal" 24 or 48 battery bank.
Spec sheet states 350 to 450 volts.

As I just said in a different forum...

The new price point that Tesla is setting, with a decent round-trip efficiency, is astounding. Maybe 1/3 the retail price of what I was observing recently.

Also, storage allows:

* Reduced grid flows and infrastructure sizing/costs.
* Reduced losses for grid flows (eg up to 9% in the UK from transmission and distribution).
* Admission of more zero-carbon generation on to the grid.

My understanding is that this battery pack is to be connected after your solar panels and charge during the day and discharge at sundown as if the sun was still out.  It is supposed to match the voltage of a series of solar panels.

Here's a link to the Tesla announcement:

Funny, some of us have been doing this "futuristic" thing for about 30-yrs now - we just didn't realize it ;)

I follow that the target market is grid-tie, but I'm curious whether there is, or will be off-grid equipment (charge controllers, inverters, load diversion) that will interface with a 350-450V bank.
