tips for collecting free wood or coal for heat
« on: September 08, 2005, 07:56:34 PM »
I have a route that i run once and a while if I am running short on wood for burning or for kindling. It takes about an hour to get a pickup load of pallets from the back of certain dept. stores , grocery stores, automotive shops, etc.

Also I have discoverd that there are literaly tons of coal hidden in the basements of old houses everywhere. In the 50's and 60's people abondaned their coal burning equipment and their caol pile in the coal bin in the basement to install oil or gas burning equipment. Their is usually a good pile of coal near or under an old boarded up basement window, most often concealed by an old water heater or two piled on top of it. Sometimes their is even a couple of boxes of wood kindling along side of it. Last year I got about a half ton of coal without even trying, you can bet this year i will get even more. I know it is not renewable but it is free and just sitting there. People don't even know they have it.
