Looking to move out of.........
« on: March 18, 2008, 05:10:05 PM »
I been in Oregon my whole life and I want a change.

Can any of you give my a small description of their home town

and what the people are like.

I'm not into the bigger cities just kinda the small ones

The reason I'm asking is we just got an offer on our house the other day.

might be leaving in about a month.

I ran into a young man who was fiercely hateful about Oregon when I was out there, his parents were doing well but for the younger folks it wasn't very friendly & he wouldn't go into it further. Remember the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence!

I hear North Dakota is looking for young people - with global warming here in the Upper Midwest we are getting an extra month of 'not frozen solid' split between spring and fall : )

Hi Icicle

I was born in Klamath Falls and shipped out 2 months later to Wisconsin. They tell me it was nice there.

Our icicles are bigger than the state of Texas here.

To give this a little RE flavor i think the gridtie incentives are pretty good here.

icicle, what parts of OR have you lived in, or what area are you in now?

I've got webbed feet too. I grew up in Salem, Independence and Albany...when we moved down to Douglas county I was bummed at first but the people down here seem to be a little different, better in some ways and worse in others.

Maybe switching counties would be a better move? It could be cheaper too. take it easy

  Hey Icicle,

I have a big ole house for sale in a small town in upstate ny, near albany . About 14,000 folks living here. It is time for me to move on also.  Maybe you could move right on in next month and I will move on out. You never know.

If you tow a spare car behind the motorhome, make double sure that a manual transmission car is in neutral (if rolling and not on a trailer) and an automatic rear drive has the driveshaft removed (fairly easy). A front drive automatic must have the front axle on a dolly or trailer. If you tow an automatic with the drive wheels rolling and the trans in neutral, it will fry.

Hi Icicle,

You really didn,t mention what kind of climate you are looking for -- We live on Whidbet Island in Washington, have been here for 36 years and for 36 years, I have been waiting for summer !!!

We have been looking at Saint George ,Utah, it,s a beautiful place with many small towns just outside it, and it is right next to Zion National Park -- a very short winter but not nearly as hot as Phoenix !!

Another great place is Prescott, Arizona but it really depends on what you are looking for, and if you,re not retired, you need to think about job opportunities, there being lots of great places to live, but many are very hard to find work !!!

Good luck on your quest, Bill H...

Over in central west Tn here, nice area -- no jobs, lots of hunting and fishing, cheap to live. No crime to speak of, friendly folks. Sure beats Chicago!

Las Vegas New Mexico is cool, I only ever lived in town once, while attending college, Las Vegas, NM 87701(oh crap, have to figure out long links?) http://tinyurl.com/39sn2qa
Anyway we have a castle, hot springs, university, and mountains, trees and best of all wide open sky views. I was just on the roof of yet another old and restored hotel on Friday, this place called, "El Fidel, " setting up a 5GHZ to 2.4GHZ  WiFi hotspot relay station. There are several restored hotels in town, so if you want to park the RV and and get a room, come on down, it only rains here when we really needs it to.

Boss? I just squeaked out of being stranded up the Interstate from you in Cimarron last October in that wet-snow blizzard that roared through & shut down routes North.

All I was trying to do was escape Minnesota for a last breath of Summer after visiting Austin but nooooo....

I turned around and ran like a rabbit back to Amarillo then on to OKC and parts northward.

Maybe next time - its on my list now, thanks for posting!
