Inductive Lighting
« on: January 05, 2005, 09:56:34 AM »
Apologies if this has been asked before but I am a newbie.  Just starting on Homebrewed electric trickery, do the low energy light bulbs( the flourescent type curled up ones) count as inductive loads, if so what low energy alternatives are there?

Many thanks in advance

They do, but as far as I know modern inverters don't really care. I've read a test in which someone connected a 20W CF light to an inverter and measured the power intake of the inverter. It was 20W (+a small loss of course).

Of course, if you use low voltage DC CF lights it doesn't matter at all. I use an 11W 12V CF light which draws about 0.9-1.0A.

CF lights are the most efficient choice when you have low power available.
