neo mags
« on: October 06, 2007, 12:22:12 AM »
while taking of the old ceramic mags and putting on new neo ones

i thought i was doing it ok .

but i wasent.  i had four poles two north two south.

a round rotor  i put sevan mags back for each pole.  so had 28 in total.

as thay all  look the same  i just put mags next to each other whare thay wanted to go . like stick to each other  side by side.

but i thought i had all the north poles up for the new north pole .

but today after playing with them for a second time i see that only every other is a north then every other a south.  so how can i join sevan small neo mags  together to make just one face the same.

  the small neo mags are 25mm x 10mm x 3mm.

i want to put 28 on rotor making four poles two south and two north.

but thay repell each other when i try put the same face up.

unless i fix them one at a time. with araldite.

i know i know nuthing magnets but looks like i need to put sum paint on them so i can find out what gos whare.   like red for south and blue for north.

its the side bits i cant figuer out  .

been pulling the mags on and off for hours before i understood that each one wants to be next to a oposit one.  but i want them to all be the same way up.

i cant beleave that there so strong and picking up every bit of s---  thay can.

i done wrong smashing the old ceramics off. there everywhare

i think my fingers are turning magnetic aswell.

but its all good fun and a great learning curve

i cant weld them on i cant screw them on  could i use super glue and small clamps.

but maybe clamp can break them there so brittle.

i thought all i had to do was let them stick themselves on just to try them on rotor and turn it with hands.

is that why you need a curved magnet .

ive lost about six  dont know whare thay have gone. but i did get plenty extra.

i think i am dreading getting the bigger ones.

stupid old git aint i .

Hi Blueyonder

Its not easy mounting simular poles on a rotor close together with glue alone has your finding.I can tell your a hard worker.Remember opposite poles attract.Put one mag on and you should be good to go.So you can wave a mag over the one you placed(i use my fingers has a barrier)If the side you have facing the mag pushes away thats the side you want up.

I wish you the best and thought you were using curved mags.Maybe a update on the project?

I still don't understand your layout, but you might try the super-glue and get a few of those "finger clamps" with the rubber tips, and glue Every OTHER magnet on slowly.

I had a big problem my first time also trying to glue all 20 mags on the steel disc at once! I put the 20 min epoxy over all 20 holes at once.(Big mistake!)

Little did I know the magnets would start slidding on the epoxy toward each other like snot! I was able to barely do it, but my fingers hurt for days!  My second rotor, I glued every OTHER magnet on the steel, and it was MUCH easier. Keep at it, ,we sure do live and learn.

I clamped the magnets down with whatever I had

was really glad that I used 90 minute Epoxy

Woof;

Haha, surprised I don't see your wife patiently gripping one of them. And not one clothespin?

   thanks for helping me understand.

and thanks for telling me that you guys need to do such things aswell.

i was getting a bit lost.  so now i know the way to go.

slowly slowly catch a monkie.   yeh and them neos are little monkies.

ive put a pic of the rotor here .  but now the ceramic mags have gone and just got the plane steel rotor.

i need to take my time now and sort out in my mind before i start with super glue

   or epoxy.

well the way things are going im happy .

sumtimes looking for the next idea to do on mill is like searching for a noodle in a hay stack.  anyone can find a needle in a hay stack .(just a big mag you need)

gluing one down is ok it will be the one next to it that wants to run away.

ok i got a new job to do now . and i might end up with four poles.

two north two south. .  so now i can make my plans while i sleep.
