how can i tell if my panel has a diode

how can i tell if my used panel has a diode installed in it?

also, i have it tied into a morningstar controler. does that controler have a diode in it?

The diode is usualy in the small junction box on the back of the panel, it will be connected to one of the output terminals.

That diode will only have a single conection to one of the output lines if it is a blocking diode.  For example, my Photowatt panles have two diodes in the junction box.  These are not blocking diodes.  They are connected across sections of the panel that are in series.   In the case some leaves prevent that section from genenerating, current is allowed to bypass that section.

Don't use a blocking diode with a Morningstar controller.

It takes care of everything.
