3 x 20W PV panel & system photos
« on: July 23, 2009, 02:42:33 PM »
Hi

I managed to reduce the size of these from over 10M each to under 100K in the PC so I hope they upload to a usable image.

They consist of my 3 x 20W panels mounted on a home made frame, a view of the complete setup, and a close up of the temporary ammeter I metioned in my last posting.

Here's hoping

Brian

BTW, Nice panels!

I was a bit afraid they looked like the PVs in the background.

Clean and organized inside too.

Hi

The second photo is of the complete setup.  The silver bit on the left is the inverter, 600W pure sine wave.  The chinese charge controler needs no explanation, it comes with a 200W Bergey look alike.  The two solar charge controlers, the left one is the one that does the work, the one on the right is just set up to monitor battery state of charge. The busbar on the top left started out life as a single unit but I removed a bit from the middle I use philips screws for the positive side and ordinary screw heads for the negative side.

The white plastic unit in the front of the inverter is a power meter monitoring the output load and voltage, the small flat device beneath that is an incrementing KWh meter.  The ameter is only temporary and shows the current from the panels, 3.5A the voltmeter was cycling between 13.3 and 13.5

The solar panels are from two different suppliers, hence the difference in size.  They are mounted in an aluminium frame on home made brackets.  The amorphic panel in the background is not connected I made it from five unmounted panels, but had trouble keeping the water out.

Thanks for the comments

Nice work...  It's addictive though.  I started out with one amorphous 12W panel last July and a year on I've got 27 assorted panels adding up to about 940W...  I don't buy new panels any more as you can pick up cheap good used ones by reputable makers (Sharp, Kyocera, BP) on eBay.

There's a lot of woodwork there in your photo... where is it exactly?  I built mine in the back of my livingroom as the back of the house has a large patio door and our garden faces due south so was ideal.  I've got some of mine on home-made racks (mostly made of wood) or hanging on the outside wall using just brass hinges as flexible mounting plates.  I did make an aluminium frame for the two biggest panels that are on my garage roof though.  But aluminium extrusions are really expensive.

Hi

I built a wooden frame on the roof of my workshop, I have just stripped te amorphous panels in the background, 5 x 5W seperate panels, but the water accessed the clips holding the wire to the copper strips, I am in the process of rebuilding the setup.

Where am I? Denbigh North Wales UK.
