seperated batteries?
« on: March 03, 2008, 04:04:47 AM »
Want to leave 2 big 12volt batteries in studio to use for a 24 volt wire feed welder, but dont want to lose them from the battery bank. Run a trace C-60 controller, with about 800 watts of panels right now. Studio is about 30 maybe 40 feet from house. Can I run a pair of wires -- 6 maybe 4 gauge from batteries in houae to studio so they can charge while Im on the road driving and be ready and also be useable with the rest of the bank when home? Hope this made sense! In the house are 3 pair of golf cart batteries and 3 deep cycle 12 volt.

You want to set up another 12 volt 200 ah  bank of batteries about 50 feet away and connect to the existing 12 volt  900 ah with a 50 to 60 amp buss ? .That's what I have to my wellhouse with a another 70 feet to another work/storage shed .It's fine and is the interconnect to a charger circuit from my truck .That all works  without a hitch. Of coarse There's  a  little resistance around  .02 ohms with good connections Fuses at both ends to protect the wire  .It's also a lightening hazard .  Some MOVs at both ends in the 30 volt range  switchable for when your away .Time and money on the race ways is a must . I'm using 200 volt MOVS too a hold the pulser.
