Where Can I Obtain These Battery Connectors?
« on: April 18, 2008, 08:08:09 PM »
Shown below is the battery connection of a 28-AH, 24-V sealed aircraft battery.  I have several of these surplus batteries that I've pulse-desulphated/charged, and would like to use them in a solar/wind application.

What I need is an inexpensive source of mating connectors.  I've been using large alligator clips for charging and experimentation, but would like to have a cleaner arrangement for permanent installation into a renewable-powered workshop and Ham shack.

I might be able to round up a few old ones from the scrap pile that would still be usable for non aircraft use. Drop me a line with your address. S64F-at-MSN.com is mine

Buying that particular connector new would be more than replacing the battery  with a comparable deep discharge lead acid set, so I'd try some of your local airplane mechanics to see if they can salvage some old ones, or make your own.

if you do not find the connector and in a hurry you could make some with some thick wall brass tube drill to size cut a X at the end to a depth greater than the length of the post squish in for tight fit put a peace rubber hose  for insulation  connect wire at other end

enjoy

Hi Slingshot.

I drilled and taped mine for 1/4-20 threds. I used a brass washer between the copper bus barr.

The bar is held to the battery post with 1/2" long 1/4- 20 brass bolts. This has been working great now for several years.

This is a 48 volt system.

Pretty neat set up! Do I understand well, they are sealed so it means you don't have to water them up so that's why you can pile them up that way?

Jerry,

I assume this means that the terminal posts are solid, not hollow?

Thanks, I was thinking about that also, because the terminals reminded me of the connection posts on my crackerbox welder.

They could be an "Anderson" type connector. Look around on www.andersonpower.com

Anderson power products makes many specialized high current connectors; chances are good that they would have something like that.

My Curry eBike has receivers for the battery pack like that, but the pins are only 1 inch apart.
