batteries

I have two 12V batteries in series for my 24V system

I want to add a third 12V

what layout should I use

You can't use 3x12v batteries to make 24v. You will have to buy two more 12v batteries to do this or your new 12v battery will be useless.

 Yes, and if you were to go 48v, you'd need to buy 4 batteries at a time.  This is one of the biggest reasons I stayed with 12v.  I can be down to my last 12v battery and the system will still work, storing and providing at least some power!!
