"Natural" decogging
« on: April 04, 2005, 02:01:36 AM »
Took this photo late yesterday afternoon. There was some wind but not enough to get the windmill going. Just after I took the photo he jumped from the F&P hub and onto one of the blades. His weight started the windmill going and he flew off.

OK so here's the plan. Train pigeons to start windmills! No?

PS. For our non-Ozy readers, a Kookaburra is a Australian native, eats snakes and lizards, and has a call that sounds like some one laughing

So should we take that as a vote of confidence for RE from the Avian community?

Those blades are ok. There isn't enough wind where I live to make good use of them, as they have a hard time starting the windmill, the diameter is only about 1550mm. I had a set of large timber blades ( 2200mm ) made by Dennis Latham of SA/Aust and they worked better for me. But when the wind is blowing hard these plastic plades  do work very well, go like the clappers and make very little noise.

Here in the states people put ears of corn out on these star shaped squirl feeders, so lets put an ear of corn on each blade & let the squirls do the rest.

that is a real cool photo..keep it, and send it to alternative energy magazine, just shows you how a windmill does not intimidate wildlife, or stimy there habitat at all...pickster
