What size of turbines do I need.
« on: April 12, 2005, 03:57:15 AM »
I have purchased a Ametek 20VDC Permanent Magnet Motor for use in a Wind Generator.  I am thinking about using a Savonius blade design. The question I have is, with an aspect ratio of 2 to 1 I would like to build 2' wide by 4' high units, how many of these would I need to run this motor/generator in a moderate wind speed environment. Thank you for your information and help.

last week windstuff ed gave the  savonus power formula, check (vawt torque fomula) the tricky part is estimating the force required to rotate the actual geni at a particular rpm under load. a modular system of construction would be ideal if you could work it out.

You can define the size of turbin using the WindTurbo software, from
