feed wires from genny to house
« on: September 30, 2005, 02:53:59 AM »
The distance from battery shed to house is 100 feet, I have a 2000/4000 motified Inverter at the battery location, I  plan on running #8 copper to house, but wondering if I can get by with just two leads for 120 volt. and Ground the entrance box using a ground rod by the house. I plan on only using the power for emergency, or using it when the genney is able to keep the bank topped off when there is enough wind.

Thanks in advance. Harrie

kinda depends on the inverter. If one side is grounded ( along with the 3rd wire ground) then yes, if each line is independent of inverter ground then you need 3 wires. Check the manual for that info.

Buy a code book and read the sections on grounding and bonding....

Aim for 2% voltage drop use the tables in the back to calc the wire size you will need.

Last but not now or ever least, call an electrcial inspector. They much prefer to hand out free advice then see you get hurt
