microturbine article

The article says not much bigger than a dish antenna,and if wind conditions are optimal, they can satisfy a typical household's appetite for electricity.


are these the same as what the turbines built here and if not, what are the differences.

I saw that article and thought it overly optimistic and apparently written by some one with little understanding of the issue.

Well, without crunching the numbers, an area with an 11mph average wind will likely produce less than 350 watts or so with a 6 foot turbine, that will hardly power your house most of the time.  Still it is a start.  Size matters.  


The most interesting part of the article for me was the tests in Chicago, where I am at, and the possible implementation of a permit process for rooftop turbines.  I hadn't heard that.  I won't hold my breath, however, as there maybe more hurdles than at a track meet.  Rich
