Wind powered vehicle alternator [CLOSED]
« on: April 29, 2008, 05:27:55 PM »
As I have been researching and pondering RE I thought also about building a wind turbine with a vehicle alternator attached to generate a 12v dc powersource to charge the battery banks. I again am a total newb and probably have not read enough.

Some problems I think with this is not having enough wind speed to rotate the alternator effectivly. I think this might be able to be compensated for by adding a larger sheave to the turbine and belt driving the alternator to get the torque and rpms necissary to function.

but I am no electronics guy

is this a plausable idea?

Yes, I have this idea that you need to research [also known as reading] before you post more questions with easily found answers. Using Auto Alternators has been discussed here quite often and quite recently, also. CLOSED.
