scrounging diodes
« on: March 09, 2005, 03:12:55 PM »
it's been suggested that auto alt. diodes are good to use for a pmg. it apears the six diodes are pressed  into the alt. caseing .what is a non distructive method of removal?. also , it appears the outer shell of the diodes act as a ground. would a special conductive retainer need to be constructed to act as a common ground?

Not all of them are.  I've got a delco alternator where the diodes are mounted on a removable heat sink.  Look around.

I have a 135 amp alt, off the crane I run, and it

has a removeable heatsink with the diodes in it..

But I also have a older crysler alt off my boat

and the diodes are in the casting, but I did

unsoder one and used a right diameter socket and

drove it out with no harm..
