Battery bank questions
« on: April 20, 2007, 10:13:10 PM »
I have four 12V batteries in parallel with a 750W continuous inverter and I'm wondering if my #6 jumpers are large enough.  Would I be able to connect the inverter between batteries instead of at the end of the bank to more evenly distribute current through the jumpers?

P.S. With an inverter, how do you determine (roughly) the total DC amps it will draw based on the wattages of the AC loads plugged in?

it is called watts law

amps * volts = watts

so in your case devide 750 by 12 and that will be the aproxament amp draw of the inverter at full load not counting inverter efficency and all that.

Assuming you want to hook it up in Parallel like this:

B-B-Load-B-B

Yes each side will only carry half the current, however should it become connected like this:

B-B-B-B-Load

then you will be undersized and the cables will overheat.

For the amount of cable and its cost I would stick to using the full load rather then praying no one mis-wires it and risking a fire. If you have any plans for expansion I would in fact recommend upsizing a bit.
