What coil size should I use?

(1/1)

WindJuggler:
An often asked question and a complicated answer.

The coil size depends on several different variables:

* Flux density
* Speed of the magnetic field compared to the magnets
* Output voltage
* Output current
The coil size determine also the size of the stator and the rotor.

A really nice tool to calculate this all can be found in this topic:

According to the research I have been doing, coil size should be, if your using small wound coils, 1\2 the thickness of the magnets used an also be 1\2 an inch more in diameter of your magnets. Other than that, I cannot say as I have yet to research different coil types.
