« on: June 08, 2010, 10:40:50 PM »
hi all im not sure if this is the place for this question or in wind or newbie but anyway you can move it if need be. my question is i have a few onan generators that are good ones but i have one with a bad motor and a good head. i was wondering if this would be a good one to rewind or put rare earths in an convert for a wind turbine.its a 4kw and it rpm is 1800 its 110ac i know i wont get 110 ac out of it but maybe to rectif to 12 or 24 volt dc or if i had to use a gear box with maybe with big blades 18 or 20 feet maybe or is it worth playing with it would be for battery chargeing .thanks for any replys

Max,
Personally, I would think about hooking that head up to a single cylinder Listeroid engine.
Here is a link to what DanB did with his.

You will probably have to figure out how to put a bearing and pulley on the motor end of the shaft
after you separate it from the dead engine.
If you run it at 600 rpm with a 3 to 1 pulley ratio that will turn the head at 1800 rpm.
Right where it needs to be.
