Can't help but agree Bob as it has transpired it seems to me like it only has to work once, longevity of the generator is not required, sorry I drew attention to this post.

Just re-read the whole thread, and Tom, I think your nose is dead-on accurate.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug!  too bad i'd lose my job.

overshoot, will amount to a couple hundred volts when a serious load dump occurs, because there is no
electronic fast acting regulator involved to control the alternator it might remain over these limits for several
milliseconds.

Generators can be modelled as current sources. As I said before, there isn't enough energy.
I assumed the generator is 60hz.. which means the filter caps need to be able to hold up full rated output for at least 50 milliseconds.
Assuming the generator is 50% efficient then your overshoot is 100% plus any energy stored in the leakage inductance, which is almost negligible.

Refuses to answer what it is, or the brand and model, both publicly and privately-
Even though he can see it is a welder, and has the manual.

Refuses to answer what the actual purpose is-
Which he must know.

Keeps supplying the same information and asking the same questions, but answers none honestly.

Anyone qualified to work on avionics should know better and have some kind of understanding of the issues.
