I think it would be better to rate the battery bank size in kWh's rather than Ah's, as kWh's would take the system voltage into account. I also wonder how many % will actually exceed 1000Ah =).
For the record, my 12V battery bank has 210 of tired Ah's :)

Well AH is kind of vague.

My 1360 AH @ 24 volts is 2X the energy density of the same AH @ 12 volts and 1/2X the energy density of the same AH @ 48 volts..

Just stating the (not so) obvious.

My system voltage is 24 and I have several banks:
1000Ah, 1500Ah, 1400Ah, 1600Ah

3 of them are AGM and the 1500Ah is a FLA.

Cheers...

My battery bank is now 250Ah connected for 24v. Not quite ready for off grid but they hit dump level most every day with a bit of sunshine.  ::)

Two of them - 3,000 amp-hours @ 12 volts, 1,500 amp-hours @ 12 volts.

OK, I should have done kWh's, but since I didn't, just state your battery voltage along with aH. Mine is 1200 aH, 12V.

what i did was figure out how much electricity i used in a 2 week period, and i doubled it for storage..i figure we have typically 3 days of sun, and 3 days of rain.....just hypothetically...i also had 80% of power coming from wind turbine(s), and 20% from solar....and no matter what i dont let the batteries go below 60% charged...the trick is to not hurt youre batteries.i had read lots prior to deciding also..there is alot to it, and many myths also....i have a battery file somewhere on here if you can find it..makes for a good read, and worth keeping...take care..pickster

I have no proper battery bank, instead I have
3 battery sets: 4 12v 7Ah for a total of 28 Ah (used for a hotwheels type of car by the daughter)
1 12v 110Ah boat battery (this will be the "main bank")
2 old and tired 12v car batteries to play around @24v wired in series

Cheers

I have 24v 2000Ah Nicad batteries.
They are from a big icebraker ship about 15 years old.
Working with full capasity !
I load them with Exmork 2kw 3,8m windgenerator directly without any charge controller, with big my own made tree phase rectifier.

For the actual RE system itself:

365AH @ 12V / 4.38 kWh comprised of the following:

220AH 12V 8D 'Werker', main battery

'Slaves' (charged from the main battery, either directly or via a boost converter when things are running a little tight) - These are all portable and are used to run countless equipment throughout the house:

4 x 18AH 12V SLA

4 x 12AH 12V SLA

1 x U1-3 'Lawn and Garden' 12V battery (yes, for cranking a riding lawnmower... please don't slap me too hard haha) - Obviously not rated in AH - Going to call it 25 (even though if I ever used even CLOSE to that much, I'd only do it a few times... LOL

-----

There's more, but considering these would be like including the battery in my cell phone... Although, I do regularly charge it from the RE bank! I can't win... LOL ::)

There are 3 other U1-3 Lawn/Garden batteries that are on the 3 'standalone' UPS units for workstations scattered throughout the house. But I don't consider these 'real', since for one, they are very specifically dedicated, and two, they are solely for use with backing up the grid.

Also, another 230AH @ 24V (5.52kWh, 4 x 230AH @ 6V in series) set for the main UPS system for the servers. I don't count them either, for the same reason.

But, if I were to be anal retentive about including ALL the lead-acid storage, I would have to call it 10.8 kWh...

Steve

EDIT - Changed this around, just didn't like how it read... Speaking of anal retentive...  Yup, that's me! :-\

two hobby/testing sized systems
1) Solar 72Ahr at 14.4V built by your truly of Sub-C 1.2V 1.3Ahr Nicds using Ghurd dump controller specifically set for NiCds.
2) Solar, Windstuffnow mini-Vawt kit, hand crank /cat running for its life (ecm based) @ 72Ahr 12Vdc using donated SLAs which is using the GHurd dump controller.

I have 4 server sized UPS.  I'm not sure how many amp hours they hold or how long the run for, but they weigh about 400 lbs total.  Two of them have (10) 110v outlets on the back, probably good for 1500 watts.  They are used with the computers that mirror and buffer hard drive banks (two sets of (10) 15k rpm SCSI drives stripped in parallel  ;D).

Else, I have fun with 5ah @ 12v worth of AA's.  My laptop is probably what gets used the most at 7.8ah, sometimes 2x a day.  15 watts of solar only gets you so far.

What I need is the 110ah 12v out of the BMW.  That thing is a beast.
