2 phase genset
« on: November 02, 2010, 07:41:29 PM »

Afternoon from here in Alberta......

Can I  hook up a  2 phase 208 volt genset into a Magnum 4024 ? Or does the Magnum strictly require 240volt split phase?

I acquired a old hatz diesel genset with a 120/208volt 2 phase head on it. The engine needs some TlC and the numbers on the genset head are hard to read, it look like at 10kw anyhow. Trying to decide if it is worth overhauling.

Thanks...
Ed.

IF this works     http://www.marind.ca/en/industrial_products/industrial_equipement/page_2.html  Lots of info on the Hatz.  Probably be able to pick out yours
from the Pics.
Good luck with it.

Hi again....

I phoned Magnum about hooking up my  120 /208 volt 2 phase genset to the Magnum MS 4024.   He said It will be okay because the inverter charges only on 1 leg. The other should pass through.
Does this sound reasonable?
Past experiance with my deutz genset with  3KW  ,120/240 split phase, Lima  brushless head , I can unbalance the voltage fairly easily. Without some sort of load on 1 leg the other leg will not start a electric motor without difficulty.
Will 2 phase have this kind of issues ?   ???
I would hate to fry my Grundfos SQ   240 volt well pump.. or air compressor...
