anyone experimented with one of these yet? looking at the data sheet it might be a worthwhile project for someone. i would have a go but my eyes are too bad to work  with stuff at that scale. seems you get the software with the chip,so it looks like it is a practical thing building a controller with one.
if i cant fix it i can fix it so it cant be fixed.

I haven't but that does look very interesting.

I agree that the SMD is off-putting...

Still, maybe you get some whipper-snapper to wire it on to a big chunk of Veroboard for you!

Chip looks great. Nothing wrong with SMD's. Just make a board for it

nope nothing wrong with smd except my eyes are not up to it. fancy having a go? i know you can get the boards from china easily enough. just need to design it first. might be a fun project. i have 3 weeks sitting around doing not a lot from next week so will read the data sheet properly and see what i can come up with.

they are expensive though, 9$ each, and you need one of their gate drivers to go with it starting at around $5.
but you won't need to program them, other than to configure some resistors.

This series of chip I've been looking at:

It's for micro solar mppt, 1.5A from between 5-7.5 volts into li-ion, one or two NiMH cells, or super caps. There are three separate chips for the three different types of chemistry / accumulator types. Chip size 4x4mm hmmm..
