wiring the remote to it won't work, might be cheap enough to get a $1-2 IR receiver off ebay and just use the IR transistor off of it...https://www.ebay.com/itm/5PCS-KY-022-37-9KHz-Infrared-IR-Sensor-Receiver-Module-For-Arduino-AVR-PIC-NK/163471595029?hash=item260faa9615:g:E14AAOSwWI5cMdK1:rk:51:pf:0

I have no problem getting that.  Would need help,  diagram to install it.  Are there ratings on these or are they universal ?   Can the one be left at the panels and another one be added to the  wire in the house ?   I know nothing about this.  HELP

Not all IR receivers are the same!
They operate at a fixed carrier frequency, usually one of 38KHz, 40KHz or 56KHz and they have inbuilt filters that can affect the maximum bit rate (I know the TSOP34156 for example can handle 4kb/s data but that's about it!!).

Batting zero on that part number... maybe contact the board manufacturer and ask them?

Update  There has been very little sun here since last fall  ( kind of depressing )  We are starting to get
a few sunny days now.  I'm very happy with the increased power from the panels tracking the sun.
I have been adjusting the tracker to follow the sun.  Installed a battery to power the actuator going to try and get charging from the panels.

I haven't been able to find that IR module in an old VCR.  I did just find a stock of photo transistors while searching for something else.  These should work as a repeater for anything.  It will just have to be shielded to keep out outside light because it won't be able to filter out ambient light.  That shouldn't be a problem.

That is great you found the photo transistors.  I have been pointing up the stone foundation on the house, picking up limbs, the usual spring clean up.  Sometime when you get a chance I will try to get that working.
