Possible Holbart Motor generater conversion
« on: August 16, 2013, 12:39:23 AM »
I have an old Holbart motor generator welder it says 900 amps 3 to 48 v DC 100% duty cycle powered by a 230/440 v 3 ph commutator motor that list max amp draw 175 / 90 amps  1750rpm
I am thinking that would make it about a continuous 35 Hp motor.
OK using it as it was designed is ludicrous and hucking it in the recycle bin is equally out of my vocabulary.
I am  thinking of  packing it up for future use like making a duel generator out of it powering it by either a Diesel engine or something else the DC side already has finite controls but I would have to come up with some form of AVR for the AC side.
what to you guys think? has anyone ever messed with one of these?
