Ok so ordered new AVR. Installed as is out of the box. Installed wire for wire with old AVR to ensure accuracy. Fired up gen and slowly put load on. Smelled burnt electric so shut down and black smoke billowed out side of gen. Panic. Then read manual about bench test (don't have) and considered the 4 dials, stab, hz, amp and volt. Copied those settings from old AVR then worked fine, no burn or smoke. Now, looks like burnt plastic shavings in bottom of generator (norpro model xm2030000). What on earth did I do and how much how bad and what was damaged? What are those plastic shavings from that melted/burned?
