Combining 12V and 24V Batteries
« on: September 10, 2014, 12:11:13 PM »
I have 3 -12V batteries and just got a 24V battery cheap.  Can I combine 2 -12Vs in series into a 24V and tie it to the new 24V battery?  If so, can I then tie my other 12V to one of the 12Vs in parallel and then connect my 12 V solar panel to it?  I was looking to increase my capacity.  Thanks.

There is a few problems with this.
Once you introduce the 2nd set of batteries, there will be an imbalance of capacity within the complete set.
This could cause issues with having the complete set correctly charge. There are ways of doing this but it could take some time.
What is the age and capacity differences? of the current 24V setup and the ones you got cheap?

Sorry.  False alarm.  Picked up what I thought was going to be a 24V battery, and it turned out to be a 12V.  If you are able to delete this post please do.
