Double lug diode?
« on: January 18, 2015, 01:04:17 AM »
Hi all.. I'm blowing up the message board!

So im looking at diodes.. I found stud blocking diodes. Some rated for like 85 amps... is that enough to hold back the battery or am I looking for one rated for the amp rating for the draw of the turbine( to prevent spinning backwards). Also, I can't find one with two lugs one at cathode one at anode.. just a lug at anode and a post-type-end (which looks "difficult" to connect) at cathode..

Crimp a ring terminal on, put diode through an isolated heatsink or use an insulator(including for the post), slip ring terminal over and then lock washer and nut.

Sure that makes sense but what about the cathode?

I meant anode. I guess a ring terminal and a screw and washer will do it. The diode must be rated for the source not the battery.

And must be heavily cooled if using it any where near its rating.

Good note. Thanks. I'll be using a 30 amp diode for 5.5 amp max (each). You think 120g (many fins) aluminum is enough?
