That's a lot of money invested in neos. Even the Germans admit that there is no permanent solution to corrosion of neos except to keep them indoors. http://www.supermagnete.de/eng/faq/Can-I-use-magnets-outdoors-as-well

Because neos are sintered, there is space between the grains internally. Soaking the neos in gun oil is one way that others have suggested may delay corrosion.

Wow what a big machine!
The force pulling the rotor into the stator must have been tremendous.
I am very impressed!
No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.
System spec: 135w BP multicrystalline panels, Xantrex C40, DIY 10ft (3m) diameter wind turbine, Tri-Star TS60, 800AH x 24V AGM Battery, Xantrex SW4024

I've worked on a few small PM stepper motors so I know how difficult it is to keep the rotor from slamming into the stator during assembly and those mostly just have shaped ferrites in them . That behemoth or a rotor would take off a hand if a person weren't careful.
From a safety standpoint it would be interesting to see how you kept the rotor from hitting the stator as you assembled it to keep the magnets from hitting, it wouldn't take much of an impact to make one of them explode.

I was thinking of starting a motor conversion project, and do some searching around here.. Stumbled on this monster!! Looks very impressive. Some questions of you don't mind; Is the cogging(as in does the generator want to stop in a certain place due to magnetic attraction to iron) on it bad, and did you intentionally try to do de-cogging on it? It seems like you have so much magnets in there, with slight imprecision on the placement so that might cancel out (some of) the cogging?

I was thinking my donor motor would make for a big conversion (originally 960rpm, 220/380V and 68/something amps). Now it looks downright puny in comparison :D
Nothing's as easy as drilling a hole in the wrong place
