5/8" shaft hub threaded hole arbor adapter to fit a 17mm hub
« on: September 01, 2016, 02:35:31 PM »
I am seeking a arbor adapter to fit my 5/8" shaft which will allow me to fit a 17mm hub on it. I found one but the problem I am facing is that it is made to fit a smooth 5/8" shaft or a keyhole one. My PMA is not smooth. I think it is a coarse threaded type.

So therefore I need a arbor adapter with a threaded hole that will screw onto the 5/8" shaft and possible(optional) have 2 screws into the side of the arbor to add an additional tightening onto the shaft and then that same arbor adapter will have a 17mm shaft for allowing me to connect my 17mm hub.

If it is not possible to find one will the existing ones on the market with the smooth hole design with the 2 screws into the side still fit on my threaded shaft and the screws will allow a stable connection to the shaft which will not pull during operation/vibration?

Here is a link and pics of the one that I found so far:

clamping anything over threads is pretty sketchy in my opinion.

seems a pretty simple part for anyone with a lathe to make.

do you know what threads you have?

no I don't know what threads I have. If I were to guess I would say coarse thread.

5/8th coarse thread is 11 tpi, commonly available.

buy a 5/8-11 coupling nut and some 17mm threaded rod. drill out one side of the 5/8th coupling nut and press the 17mm thread in (you might be able to just hammer it in). and then weld it.

problem with set screws of course is you can't get it off, several ways to solve that problem, grind a flat on the shaft, or drill a hole through it, ream it for a taper pin, safety wire the tapered pin in, etc

A 17mm hole in hub should fit. The 5/8 inch shaft is close to the metric 17mm. will the hub have room on the shaft as is? Arch
