Salford Energy House

(1/1)

DamonHD:
This was fun (I hope to finish the write-up this morning):

http://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-Salford-Energy-House.html

A whole typical UK house (Victorian, brick) inside a controlled chamber, to see how heating and efficiency retrofit should be done better.  I particularly like the replacement humans consisting of 70W of incandescent light-bulb!  I've seen the future, and we've been substituted...  B^>

About 10 years ago in London (Ontario!) a house was built inside a steel building.  The house was outfitted with hydraulic rams and strain gauges to develop load tests simulating various wind pressures.  This was all intended to provide a data set for changes in the building codes.

The local residents called it "Operation Three Little Pigs".
