I'm assuming that this is at 12V?

It doesn't matter what the voltage is. amp/hours is amp/hours.

Mind you, though that 100A/H at 12V won't run as long as 100A/H at 48V given the same wattage of load.

a 10 watt light on the 12V system uses .83A for slightly less than 100 hours in a perfect world with a 100A/H battery.

The same 10 watt light on a 48V system uses .21A for slightly less than 400 hours in a perfect world with a 100A/H battery.

Veewee: Wrong.

If you have a string of four 12V batteries in a row, each rated at 100 AH, then your 48V system has 100 AH capacity.

If you take the same batteries, hook them all up in parallel to each other, then you have a 12V battery bank, with 400 AH capacity.

Please read the question more carefully before answering.

I have 1 battery that has 750 cold cranking amps, I dont know how this relates to amp hours. Proper batterys will come later, will probely be used ones. Got some learning to do.

cold cranking amps has nothing to do with Amp Hour capacity.  CCA reflects how many amps can actually be drawn from the battery but it doesnt have anything to do with time.

Perhaps I should have said WattHours but that may have confused everybody ?

There have been so many newbies that talked about their 7ah battery. Where are those people ?

Also
Where are all those guys that are just charging AAA batteries and Cell Phone batteries? Somehow I was sure that the 'under 7ah' answer would have been clicked a lot more.

Woof,
Just like polls about hand cream and dishwasher soap, every poll is subject to error due to the nature of who is more likely to answer, and who is not.  The guys charging disposable batteries may not even realize the question could apply equally to them at all.  No matter how you phrase the question.
I hated sociology in college.
I had to get that off my chest.

I was thinking it was just because nobody wanted to admit to charging such small batteries

Yeah, I thought so too. It's a bit of mines-bigger-than-yours poll. I have a 7Ah battery which I use in a solar set up so I voted. Maybe once others see a vote they will join in too.
(I do have a nice NiFe 100Ah waiting for me to make a controller and buy some panels for =)

I wasn't sure which one to pick, 4 systems from 7 to 550.
Two only run sometimes, when the batteries get low.
The 550 changes from 440 to 660, depending on the situation that week.

Not including AAs on stepper motors or mini-PVs. :)

Interesting reading.

Having just retired as a marine electrician, I could only get hold of deep cycle batteries, which as it happens is good... I have a 95AH I use as a test battery on various projects, and on my car a 110AH ( well it is a 2.5ltr diesel) I can still buy these 110AH batteries at cost price so guess what I will be using.

As where I live in the UK I am very sheltered for wind, I will probably go for PV at least it gets light every day and I have a south facing roof.

We have been told in the UK to expect our utility prices to go up by up to 60% in the next 2 years.  So what was just an interest now has real value.
