Making homemade stator wire?

Is it possible to make my own stator wire?

And... Can I use insulated wire instead of stator wire? Also can use salvage wire from old electric motors also? Ive heard a few people say that they salvaged some to make thier coils. Im trying to keep from buying some if possible. Just asking!

hi,, i think that insulated wire is not ideal because -it takes a lot of space -the plastic coating cannot bear much heat do you mean magnet wire  removed from motor by salvage wire? if it is yes then,yes,it can be reuse i have used these wire to rewind an armature and it works pretty well but bear in mind that when you are removing those wires,the enamel coting should not be damaged

If you need wire , try a local alternator rebuild shop. The guy close to me also rebuilds large starters, and with the large starters are worn out starter relays , which have  enamel coated wire (17ish gauge)in them. some is thicker if it is a really big relay. if you are handy with a dremmel all you have to do is cut them open , five or ten mins with the cutting wheel. above is a section of one of the stators i built , all with recycled wire. The coils are 1 3/4 " dia . Bill . Carpe Ventum (seize the wind)
